Urban Development the biggest Disaster of all.

Urban Development a public health disaster even bigger than the comet (Extra-terrestrial Hazard, Airburst). A truly human-resistant virus. Birth into death. Planners and developers competing with each other to create more and more space into place, next on the agenda is floating cities. More and more urban heat islands are warming the planet.

• How are developers not conditioned to mitigate their carbon footprint impact created?

United Nation and all programmes linked are not dealing with #degrowth in a serious way.

As humanity has expedited 85% of all land in/of the natural environment. Was the number 50% in 1970 I believe? This is 50 years of environmental rape through mass consumption.

The #SDGs will have suffered a mortal blow if the world does not get to grip with increasingly systemic nature of disaster risk, including health. The #COVID19 is a wake-up call, that normal is not covering our ‘Needs’!

BIG WARNING The single largest CC hazard due to “loss of land” is man-made urban development, criminal land grabbing and deforestation, this is not listed as a risk to land in “Making Cities Resilient”. Urban development, criminal land grabbing or deforestation is not even listed as Anthropogenic Main Hazards.

This disturbing confirmation of an unprecedented catastrophe in the making should be a wake-up call to the #G20 countries to assume leadership in this age of #CORONA before it’s too late. The world has to start reducing greenhouse gas emissions now.

 

Land loss

Re-wilding programme is large-scale conservation aimed at restoring and protecting natural processes and core wilderness areas, providing connectivity between such areas, and protecting or reintroducing apex predators and keystone species

The problem we don’t have the #climatespacetime. Every restoration back to wild will take as long time as it took to destroy it, micro-climating is a very delicate thing. There is a global conservation movement to restore Earth’s land into 50% wilderness, one lung of the planet. So 50 years from now is 2070, not a day later. Many more resonance restoration re-recoveries to follow the decades up to year 2070 and beyond… as many as needed.

Look inbound and focus on the word Unification what it means and how to achieve immediate results with rational resilience decision making.

The rule is: For every land developed two Lands must be rewilded. Understand #SDG18, the economic impact of Disaster and the need for Risk investments in developing Resilience.

Why does this make financial sense, and what is the business case? – Lots of high-density residential buildings – less likely to promote future infection.

– No budget, or no protection of the budget, for fighting urban growth disaster. – Potential sources of finance not tapped. – Accounting for use of funds is weak.

Look outbound for actions to achieve maximum development resilience: Identify and develop financial mechanisms, that can support resilience activities. Ring-fenced budget, local & national revenues + public partnerships Provide incentives in #togethernessship, Governance Integrated Planning and Preparation Response

The IPCC in 2030-target reports says, by cutting ghg CO2 (only) in half (about 6%/yr) and stable numbers of carbon sinks gives us a 50/50 chance to stay under 2 C degrees #globalheating. This gives us of course no safety margin.

Not being on top of this problem will only increase the problem as #climateimpact goes both ways. Note, the CC is an immediate threat (civilisational collapse). Once again, our world is ONE integrated problem.

Hope – The trend of rising from the ashes of the corona virus is not enough.

How to approach the come-back path by choosing the best recovery direction from reopening the “Gates of consequences” is an unknown.

Our existing economy is optimised, without any contingency (redundancy). Insufficient for disaster abruptions.

Only a GREEN (in harmony with nature) stimulus plan can absorb the shock waves that will come after this. Expect more mortality with at least 50 years of severe cascading climate disruptions. #monoclimate

These crises must be turned around with UNDERSTANDING, COMMUNICATION and VOICE ACTIVISM #DivestNobel. #PCD11

Unfortunately for stability and resilience of our planet requires much less climate sensitivity. Our immediate existence is in peril.

Yes it’s true, we have to accept to surrender to defeat. From here a curvy uncertain road in two directions, time is up what do you do?

Here it is; Explaining the cascade of tipping points in report, inter-connected #Climatedots:
Global common cascade of tipping points to be exceeded (triggered at low levels of global warming) even between 1 and 2 °C of warming breaking many planetary boundaries;

West Antarctica’s ‘grounding line’ where ice, ocean and bedrock meet is retreating irreversibly.

Greenland’s ice sheet to be doomed at 1.5 °C of heating, which to happen as soon as 2030.

The Arctic (warming at least twice as quick as the global average), indicating that, at 2 °C of heating, the region has a 10–35% chance of becoming largely ice-free in summer amplifying regional warming.

99% of tropical corals are projected to be lost if global average temperature rises by 2 °C.

Biosphere tipping points to trigger abrupt carbon release back to the atmosphere or strong cloud feedbacks to cause a unknown global key tipping point (a cloud-resolving model published this year suggests that the abrupt break-up of stratocumulus cloud (above about 1,200 parts per million of CO2) could have resulted in scary 8 °C of global heating), this will amplify climate change further.

The Amazon tipping point ranges from 40% deforestation to just 20% forest-cover loss.

Dieback of North American boreal forests, turning some regions from a carbon sink to a carbon source.

Permafrost across the Arctic is beginning to irreversibly thaw and release carbon dioxide and methane.

15% slowdown since the mid-twentieth century of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC)!

 

The remaining emissions budget (#carbonbudget) to be all but erased already.

Humans strongly forcing the system, with atmospheric CO2 concentration and global temperature increasing at rates that are an order of magnitude.

The situation is an emergency if both risk and urgency are high. If reaction time is longer than the intervention time left (τ / T > 1), we have lost control.

The report argue that the intervention time left to prevent tipping could already have shrunk towards zero, whereas the reaction time (τ) to achieve net zero emissions is 30 years at best. Have we already lost control of whether tipping happens?

 

The rate at which damaging tipping cascades accumulates from global mean surface temperature tipping are an order of magnitude.

Swedish template “When the climate crisis comes” #Climatedots

BREAKING CITY INITIATIVE

The #climatedots lead to this draft Swedish brochure “When the climate crisis comes”, to be distributed to all (4.8 million) Swedish households.

The redesigned crisis brochure is addressed to Sweden’s elected people from us citizens, who are deeply concerned by the ongoing #climatecrisis and the consequences it will have for our society.  With the accelerating global heating comes food shortages, water shortages, disease spread, extreme drought, fires, floods, conflicts, terrorism and war. 

The climate crisis poses a threat to democracy and human rights. It will expose the majority of us living today to unimaginable suffering and hardship, already within a couple of decades.

The brochure to Malmo’s residents, “When the climate crisis comes”. The brochure provides a summary of the current climate research. In addition, it will inform-to-protect/help-to-understand how seriously our society will be affected by the climate crisis if they do not take the necessary action as soon as possible. The Extinction Rebellion’s (XR) first concrete call to our politicians is: Speak clear language! For example, the rainfall that hit the city in 2014 cost the entire £500 million! Similar extreme weather will occur at shorter intervals in the future and with greater intensity (SMHI). XR want Sweden’s City of Malmo to be the first to participate in a nationwide information campaign that gives all residents knowledge about the climate crisis, the ecological collapse and what we need to do now. 

XR’s second call is: Act now! XR wish Malmo to show political will and take immediate measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the 1.5-degree target in the Paris Agreement. A carbon dioxide budget is needed for all emissions from the City of Malmo – from companies, the public sector and the residents of the municipality. The City of Malmo announced #climateemergency, received 886 votes this year and thus became one of the proposals that received the most votes on the “Malmo Initiative”.

XR want a research-based plan to be made with the help of independent experts who are free from party politics and special interests. According to the City of Malmo, the municipality has reduced its emissions by 12 percent over the past 30 years, but a 32 percent reduction is required between 2018-2020 to reach the municipality’s goals. In other words, rapid and extensive changes are needed. XR would like to point out that the climate impact of reality only becomes less with reduced emissions

(((If all countries keep their promises and decrease their emissions by at least 40 percent by 2030, we will still reach global heating of 3 C degrees!)))

We are in a crisis whose scope is almost impossible to take in. In this situation we must be brave, see the truth in the white eye and dare to embark on unbroken ground. Political will and decisions that are crucial to the future of our and our children need to be made now, during this term of office by our elected politicians, with duty-to-protect our country-regions and its inhabitants.

UN Climate Change News, 25 November 2019 – Publications released today by UN Climate Change shine a light on current climate action and lay down pathways to climate neutrality by mid-Century, required to meet the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement. Prepping for 3 C degrees

Predicting rising temperatures by 3 C (+30 – 40 yrs) degrees, is a temperature no body can cope with.

This is an impossible equation.

Before our very eyes the Arctic is disappearing from only 1.5 C (150 yrs) degrees global heating.

It is likely the whole continent will disappear in 30-40 years and so could 50% of the global human population. This pure continent vanished, replaced with dark blue, filled with human disaster debris is such a disgrace we should already now rename it the ‘Human Failure Circle’.

In 2019 the elite are fully aware of climate change global heating, suddenly stating that the human race CAN SURVIVE! They are fully aware that in the last 50 years we have already wiped out 50% of spices, urbanised 50% of all natural land. There are zero % spaces left on the planet to pollute. All this in one lifetime cannot happen, REVENGE IS COMING whether you like it or not. It is going to hit humans where it hurts most. So instead of dreaming of new worlds to conquer, first clean up the mess you have left behind. Historically businesses have left it to the vulnerable to deal with – It’s game over.

Here is a business challenge – Do you hope your business will take care of you and your family when the average temperature has doubled from 1.5 to 3 degrees C? Or, do you expect by then some volunteer relief organisation will sort out your life and your family members?

Business as usual. Connected or not we’re in the last few life boats.
I can tell you then – big business crash n’ burn mentality wishing for dodgy politicians to subsidise or bail out your company is no longer going to work.

Because the PROBLEM is irreversible, I can whisper to you humankind’s final solution. GET BEHIND THE SDGS ASAP #GETBEHINDTHESDGS – (The Paris Agreement is SDG13)

We have to use a new language, In Togethernessship, We Must Try, because no corporate solution on it’s own CAN HANDLE what’s coming. Or, believe me, military will intervene worldwide sooner than you can imagine. What future of collapsing societies is that to look forward too.
